Being prepared for a disaster is something we talk about, but often leave until the last minute. District 4-A1 is initiating and implementing a disaster response procedure and team.
The goal is to develop four Teams; a Team in each Region that the District Disaster Response Chair can call upon as needed to response to disasters in the area and District. There will be a Team of Lions in each Region who are willing and able to respond as needed. The Team will be the core group that rallies others to assist and determines what needs to be done in coordination with other first responders.
The goal with the four teams is to have at least a contact person in each Region, so they could pick up the Disaster Relief Trailer and be responsible for it.

Lions have created several Foundations to assist and fund various needs and projects. Lions Clubs International Foundation has helped in many ways, especially in the area of disasters. In fact, the first grant made by LCIF was in the US for a flood. California Lions created the California Lions Foundation to help fund smaller projects and disasters right here in California. One of the first grants in California was for the disastrous fires in the Paradise area. The grants for Lions Clubs International Foundation have certain limitations and are for amounts of $10,000 or more.
California Lions Foundation can have fewer limitations but are for grants of $1,000 to $10,000 and in some cases more.
The Lions in the heart of California, MD4-A1, decided that there are cases where we need to fill in the gap. Some disasters are not massive in scope, some only need a small amount of money, sometimes the big disasters have cases where you need just a bit more money or help.
Seeing this need the Lions District 4-A1 Disaster Relief Foundation was created. Grants are for $1,000 or less and are to be used within MD4-A1. The Lions District 4-A1 Disaster Relief Foundation is a tax deductible 501(c)(3) corporation and contributions are encouraged.
